Hello [[contact.first_name]],
This week I've been reminded just how powerful photography still is. A powerful photograph can take many forms, shocking, beautiful, moving or even funny. Something that provokes an emotional reaction.
Achieving such an image can take careful thought, dedication, bravery, and of course some luck. But maybe the best opportunities come from photographing something you love.
I hope this latest inspiration email proves helpful on your photographic journey.
Many thanks and best wishes.

Get Closer...
It never ceases to amaze me the swathes of compositions that reveal themselves when I start to look closer. Leaves, flowers, insects; peeling paint, rust and window cracks, the possibilities are practically limitless.
Tip: Getting closer can often allow the creation of simpler compositions. Choosing a colour scheme can help boost the impact of a simple composition even further. Try and limit the number of colours appearing within the composition and if possible play with complimentary colours.
Pro tip: Lighting is key in all aspects of photography and no less so with close-up photography. Strong, contrasty light can bring a busyness to a composition but when used well it can highlight elements and mask unwanted areas. Soft light can be wonderful for delicate colour palettes while backlighting often provides visually rich, striking and vivid photos. Use modifiers like black and white A4 cards to bounce, reflect and shield light in your
close-up compositions.

After the shocking events in the US election story over the weekend, I found myself falling down a New York Times Rabbit hole, where I discovered the compelling work of Dina Litovsky. In particular her Substack Photo Essay on Jack Teich.
